My Recalibration Story

Life's Order of Operations

Like many of my clients, I once lived a life that followed the expected timeline:

Born

Graduate High School & College

Get a job

Get married

Buy a house

Have kids

Retire

Die...

But none of this was what I wanted...

I was living these and when it got to Have Kids, I completely cut the cord and threw out this order of life’s operation. The moment I actually paused long enough to question what I was doing was when I was sitting in the doctor’s office after undergoing IVF and realizing for the first time that I didn’t want kids. I had just never stopped long enough to ask myself what I wanted.

I knew culturally I was supposed to have kids. I knew my family wanted us to have kids. I knew society wanted us to have kids. I knew as a woman I should have kids. None of this was what I wanted.

I recalibrated my Life's order of operations.

In this version I stripped away everything, all the armor we wear that consists of other people’s shoulds and supposed tos, and I went to my core. I asked myself what do I want. How do I want to live? What do I believe in? From there, I very carefully and intentionally rebuilt myself into a version that was inherently and authentically me.
